Olaf Meilke

Raakte op 6 jarige leeftijd gefascineerd door de harmonische warmte van de piano.
Begon enkele jaren later als klarinetist bij de Harmonie St. Cecilia Beringen en schakelde over naar alto en tenor saxofoon.
Ontdekte tijdens zijn humaniora acid jazz en fusion en ging saxofoon en muziektheorie studeren aan de Jazz-Studio te Antwerpen bij saxofonisten Ad Colen, Ben Sluijs en Tom Van Dyck.

Olaf volgde workshops bij saxofonisten Frank Deruytter, Werner Geboers en Hugo Boogaerts.

In het schooljaar 2001 was hij docent saxofoon aan de Stedelijke Muziekschool Bree.

Rhumbaraq

During 2005 and 2006 Olaf worked with two great minds: Mounzer Sarraf and Simon Corthouts.
This resulted in the project named Rhumbaraq.
Rhumbaraq is a vehicel of music moving in all directions in time.
What you play and don't play only has meaning when the reason is to communicate.

Today we have parted our musical ways because Rhumbaraq is not a constant.
